The Songwriters’ Showcase


The Songwriters’ Showcase is a monthly community project organized by Very Imaginative People to provide a platform for both amateur and professional songwriters to showcase their work and for music lovers to come together, to appreciate the musicians behind a song creation.

The Songwriters’ Showcase is hosted in both Mandarin and English.

On October 10th, the seventh series will be held at the usual venue – The Bee, Publika.

Show starts at 9pm. Free admission.

Featured Songwriters:

Ann Choong 

Ann will be performing with a vocal accompanist. Ann is a bubbly, singer songwriter from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Lived in London for 4 years and is now back in Malaysia. Winner of Warner Music Hong Kong’s online “Need you Now” singing competition. Finalist for Brand New Star 2011 hosted by Hummingbird Music  Ltd in HK. Top 30 for Rhythm of London , London Underground Competition.

Serene

Serene will be accompanied by a guitarist and octapad player. A talented musician and business woman, Serene has released three solo albums, arranged and produced for local and international artiste, owns Serene Music Academy and the list goes on.

Xin Yan 欣彦 & Siew Jye 王修捷

Xin Yan and Siew Jye will be performing together for the first time. Both have different music styles. Xin Yan is a local songstress specializing in bossa nova style. She has previously released three singles, and will be releasing her fourth one soon, which Siew Jye will also be contributing his songwriting. Siew Jye is a speaker, columnist and musician.

Az Samad

Guitarist-Educator Az Samad has recorded with Grammy Winners Flaco Jiménez & Max Baca; graduated & taught at the prestigious Berklee College of Music; performed in the United States, Europe & Asia; and appeared on 16 CDs ranging in styles from Tex-Mex, Contemporary Jazz to solo acoustic guitar. His works have been described as “richly textured, poetic and atmospheric”. Previously based in Berkeley, California; Az now lives in Kuala Lumpur.
